Marty Phelan is a Investment Adviser Representative based in Chicago, IL. His specialty is in assisting individuals create and implement comprehensive and viable financial plans for their life, including retirement and income planning, insurance solutions, opportunities for tax reduction in retirement, and transferring wealth to heirs.
Marty’s first exposure to the financial services industry was shortly after graduating from college. Marty graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1995, and immediately entered a full-time volunteer service program for a year teaching grade-school children in Chicago’s underprivileged inner city neighborhoods.
Because of Marty’s belief in the importance of education and in giving those less fortunate, spent an entire year teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in math and science, earning only a stipend of $150 per month.
It was a very rewarding sacrifice of time and energy, but it continues to pay dividends as he hears from former students, now grown adults, many with families, who have connected with him on social media. Recently, he randomly reconnected with a former student of his who had become the head of the accounting division at a top-tier Chicago-based company!
At the end of his service, Marty joined a team at Hewitt Associates responsible for the administration of the 401(k) plans where he consulted with plan members and employees regarding saving and preparing for their retirements.
He found his teaching experience to be very valuable in communicating the complexities of retirement plans in a simple, easy-to-understand way to enable employees to plan for their financial futures. Marty also has helped hundreds of people improve their financial situation and generate wealth.
Marty provides true fiduciary-standard-of-care to his clients. What makes Marty unique in financial services is that he holds a Series 65 license with the SEC, which legally obligates him to put his clients’ interest before his own.
Many stock-brokers, insurance brokers and non-fiducary advisers are held only to a standard of “suitability,” which leaves open the opportunity for them to recommend securities and insurance products that – while suitable -can carry with them high fees, loads, or commissions that may not be disclosed to the client.
As a fiduciary, Marty must disclose all manner of payment and potential conflicts of interest to you during the evaluation and planning process, so that they can make truly informed decisions based on the “pros & cons.”
Marty is licensed to provide both securities and insurance solutions. Because of this, he practices a holistic approach to financial planning, taking your entire financial picture into account before making any recommendation.
